Narrative painter, Rhode Island

Many of my paintings show someone with their eyes closed: sleeping, dreaming, remembering.

Two Fridas and a Cassatt Dress, acrylic on canvas, 24 × 36 inches

This is my homage to my little Frida, my dog, who died at only nine. The Dalai Lama said, “Sleep is the best meditation.” The image came to me during a meditation: me asleep on the couch in my Frida Kahlo T-shirt, with Frida over my shoulder. Two Fridas. The striped dress in my hand comes from Mary Cassatt’s quiet paintings of women at home. In sleep, the ones we’ve lost can come back.
